English boy-prince ‘Marshall Toiras’ Cuirass
c1627-1650
This miniature Cuirass is a copy of one of the many French armours
captured by English troops in 1627. Much of this captured armour
was later used by the English during the English civil war, and
tradition has it that the English made helmets especially for them.
Being a ‘boy-prince’ armour, the helmet features broader
cheek-pieces with elaborate pierced decoration. Otherwise this
is a standard three bar English pot helmet. The armour has been
ground and polished white throughout, and is sold complete with
stand, and measures 16.5” from the skirt to top of helmet,
which has a 16” internal circumference.

Refined English Harquebusiers three-bar pot helmet c1640-1650
Modelled here by historian & author Martin F. Marix Evans
for a forthcoming Osprey publication, this is easily my most regular
piece. Just as popular with both collectors and re-enactors, this
English Civil War ‘three-barred pott’ is based on a
helmet in the Littlecote House collection in Wiltshire England,
(now housed at The Royal Armouries in Leeds). This helmet is comprised
of a hand forged two-piece folded skull, fixed stepped neck tail,
one-piece fall/peak with attached three-barred face cage, and solid
cheek-pieces, suspended and lined with buff leather. This is a
meticulous and faithful reproduction in all respects. (24” internal
circumference as standard). |

of the period, this helmet has had all forge-black ground off its
twenty-four hand forged flutes, this is what gives the helmet its
characteristic ‘Black and White’ appearance. Please
